A brief story of our Journey
Dr. Klyne Smith founded YourNextSteps-US in January 2022 after 30 years of helping students prepare for college and careers. His vision began in college, when he saw many students in his community struggle to understand college requirements and the application process. Over time, he realized that college is only one step—discovering passion, purpose, and motivation is just as critical. This led to a new approach to college consulting: meeting students where they are in ability, experience, and maturity, and guiding them toward informed, meaningful futures.
In 2012
Dr. Smith realized many of the students he helped gain admittance to college still struggled to find internships, how to proceed to graduate school, or land (and negotiate) the first positions of their careers. This gave rise to his pragmatic method of career counseling. The combination of college counseling and career counseling allowed Dr. Smith to continue mentoring and coaching students for the next decade.
In 2021
Dr. Smith mapped a larger vision: to pay full-tuition for high-potential or low-opportunity students to attend college for 4 years. The program will fund one student in year 1, two students in year 2, three students in year 3, and four students in year 4. Then, the cycle repeats with the intent of moving generations forward academically and vocationally with an emphasis on embracing their life goals while living their most authentic lives.

The coaches and mentors in the organization utilize their vast knowledge, experiences, and credibility to guide youth to transform their passions and value education as a tool to build a life they can hold themselves in high regard; in an inclusive, diverse, and cultural community and learning space.
